Tamar Amitay MSPT Principal

Tamar Amitay MSPT, Principal graduated from New York University in 1986 with academic honors. She received her Advanced Masters in Clinical Orthopedics from Touro College in 2003. This degree furthered her knowledge and skills in advanced manual and orthopedic assessment of complex musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Tamar's post graduate coursework is focused on manual therapy, biomechanical analysis, differential diagnosis and injury prevention. She holds post-graduate manual therapy certificates from the Hospital for Special Surgery, Integrated Manual Therapy Solutions, the Institute of Physical Art, Diane Lee's Discover Physio, Kinetic Control, the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, and the North American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapy.

Ms. Amitay is a highly regarded physical therapist recognized within the New York City medical community as a remarkable clinician, diagnostician and healer. Tamar has over 26 years experience of clinical experience in rehabilitation (NYU Rusk Institute and JFK Medical Center) and outpatient private practice, as a clinical director at Plus One Physical Therapy. In addition, to her clinical work Tamar teaches in the doctoral program at Touro College.

Tamar's specialty is in the treatment of cervical and lower back pain including herniated discs, scoliosis, sciatica, spinal instabilities, rib torsions, stenosis, radicular arm and leg pain and cervicogenic headaches. She is a certified Advanced Hip Clinician through the Hospital for Special Surgery and treats hip labral tears, hip tendonitis, tendonosis, impingements, osteoartitis and post surgical hip patients including hip labral tears and total joint arthoplasty. She has extensive experience in treating post surgical, orthopedic dysfunction and sports medicine injuries of the shoulder, knee ankle and hip. She treats a variety of women's health issues including pre and post partum injury and post-mastectomy.

Tamar employs a biomechanical and neuromuscular approach to treatment, utilizing clinical reasoning and the most current cutting edge evidenced based research to identify the underlying cause of the patients' dysfunction and pain. She is passionate in regards to patient care, making it her mission to optimize her patient's wellness, pain free function and performance. Ms. Amitay's philosophy is to return her patients to their maximum potential quickly and safely and empower them with both knowledge and self treatment programs tailored to meet their specific needs.

Tamar is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and a member of the Private Practice and Women's Health Sections.
